Ruth laids out of agenda for the day

c) Concern for membership (institutional). What to do?
d) Web page
e) Honoring Bob Snyder (this year he retired)
f) Dan Hallin (report from ICA).

Ruth Presents her project of Jewish Palestinian Dialogue. She presents and opens discussion about opportunities for dialogue and creating spaces for discussion and understanding. She presents her web site before the Binacom group, and opens the discussion and questions about it.

After the presentation the group discusses possible activities for this year, there are several proposals, but

• Organization of a film festival (Ruth)
• A smaller scale Encuentro of faculty and grad students (Ruth and Dan)
• A small conference (Dan)
• Getting people from UC Riverside involved (Dan)
• Integrating Ellen Wartella into the activities of Binacom (Conferences, Encuentros, etc). (Dan)
• Binational projects such as enrolling in binational institution classes (and get credit for it)---Claudio´s proposal.
• Possibility of starting a project with Hermosillo
• Get Claremont Collegue involved with Binacom
• Ruth proposes to elaborate a calendar with all the events.
• Get the Department of Visual Arts at UCSD more involved in Binacom (Ruth and Dan)

Jorge Camarillo mentions that in May they will organize an event of short films by students of communication in his university. They will have videos from Spain, Japan, Argentina, and other countries.

About membership, people discussed trying different strategies to widen the membership of Binacom, for example Ruth proposed to invite Cal State San Marcos as a Binacom regular member.

Jorge Camarillo will contact El Colegio de la Frontera Norte Communication Department to invite them also to be part of Binacom.

Another issue that was highlight was the membership of 3 campuses of UABC as a single institution, those campuses are Tijuana, Ensenada and Mexicali.

Ruth calls for next binacom meeting for November 3rd.
Discussion for the party in December. Possible in a Tijuana restaurant, rather than in a house.

Reminder to Binacom members to send testimonies for the web page honoring Hope Shaw.

Proposal to incorporate Bob Snyder´s honoring party to December´s Christmas party.

Daniel Hallin (ICA REPORT)

Dan informs that he is working to get a panel for the International Communication Association Congress in Dresden, Germany for next year.

People agree to award a single person with an stipend to go to Dresden. Dan will send a message for the proposals.
